Away We Go Out on DVD Today

#hi_atl

The Sam Mendes film Away We Go starring Maya Ruldolph and John Krasinski is out on DVD today. It's a great flick. Here's my original review:

Burt and his girlfriend Verona are about to have a baby. When they learn that Burt’s parents, who live nearby, are about to move to Brussels, Burt and Verona decide they need to find a place to set up root. So they embark on a road trip to visit family and friends in the hopes of finding “home.” This is the simple and Sweet premise of Sam Mendes’ Away We Go. As the couple embarks on this journey, we become privy to the contours of their relationship juxtaposed against the lives of their friends and family. They discover, as we know, that no family is perfect, no life is ideal. You simply have to learn what works for you and yours. Burt whispers sweet nothings, professing to love Verona even if she becomes so fat that he can no longer find her nether regions. So the movie is funny, melancholy and heart-wrenching all at the same time. Maya Rudolph, daughter of the late Minnie Ripperton, is thoughtful and poised as Verona and John Krasinski is charmingly goofy as Burt. A sweet, romantic excursion, indeed.
