Casting Opinion

Since I saw Swedish film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I have been making my way through the books (aka "The Millennium Trilogy") by Stieg Larsson.  I'm now half way through the second book The Girl Who Played with Fire.  As I stated in a previous post, Hollywood is hell bent on remaking these films for American audiences.  Why I don't know--I suppose it's all about money rather than the belief that American audience won't read subtitles.  Hollywood has cast Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist, the journalist who solves mysteries with heroine Lisbeth Salander.  I was recently that Craig perhaps isn't best choice.  While he's obviously European, I just don't picture Blomkvist as a blond, muscled, blue-eyed James Bond type.  Blomkvist is a JOURNALIST, not a action figure.  In the books, Blomkvist uses his whit more than he uses his brawn.  Indeed, although he has a military background, Blomkvist often is at the mercy of the bad guys.  In fact it's Salander who exercises most of the physical prowess in the books and, on more than one occasion, saves Blomkvist's ass.  No doubt that Blomkvist has a certain sex appeal because almost every woman in the books ends up sleeping with him.  Craig, while not ugly, to me is not the type of guy who would need or want a woman saving him.  I'd rather see Clive Owen or Viggo Mortensen in the role.  How would you cast this role?
