Honey, The Baby's Flying

I saw a quirky French film last week called Ricky.  It kept popping up in my recommendations on Netflix instant, so I gave in and watched it.  Basically two factory workers meet, fall in love and have a baby.  And everything's fine until the baby sprouts a pair of wings.  It's never explained why the kid has wings, but I assumed it was from something shady going on at the factory.  At first the family is cast into turmoil and exposed to a media circus.  Then Ricky goes missing.  You sort of get the sense that he may in fact be fantastical in a way that transcends the physicality of his feathers.  In any case, the family eventually bonds for the better. A lighthearted way to pass the time.

  1. Sometimes I need films like this, so I might give it a go. I would think there was a metaphore behind the child having wings- like that it's an angel, but you are the one to judge. You've seen the film. Netflix keeps recommending me similar films to this but I might ignore them if they are as forgattable.
    Great blog!

  2. Thanks for reading Amelie. I think Ricky as a metaphorical angel is a very valid interpretation. What I liked most about the film was the room to speculate about the multiple meanings the filmmaker was trying to convey.
