What Movie is This?

So I finally saw The Hunger Games because it recently became available on Netflix instant.  Consider this post a commentary rather than a review.  While I was mildly entertained by the movie and watched from beginning to end, I couldn't help but to think the books must be a whole lot better than the Hollywood treatment.  As I watched, I also could not help but to think of a laundry list of other movies that arguably play out in The Hunger Games (THG):

1. Battle Royale--A group of Japanese teenagers are left on an island where they are forced to fight to the death until only one is left standing.  While the similarity between BR and THG is more than obvious, Battle Royale is a lot bloodier and in-your-face.  THG is BR-lite.
2. The Truman Show--Both films feature the physical manipulation of the character's habitat and relationships for the purpose of improving television ratings.
3. The Running Man--Like THG, powers-that-be force the main character to fight for his life on a televised game show.  The Running Man also features a charismatic game show host (Family Feud's Richard Dawson)  interviewing the "contestant," much like Stanley Tucci's character in THG.
4. Coal Miner's Daughter--Katniss Everdeen is a coal miner's daughter, is she not?  Thankfully, there was not much singing in THG.
