Less Crap, More Good Stuff

According to a New York Times article today written in anticipation of the Toronto Film Festival, it was reported that American film companies will be putting out about 40% less films out next year. At first I thought, “Oh no, I’m going to be bored out of my mind.” But as I thought some more, I realized I probably don’t see half the crap Hollywood puts out anyway. [Transformers 2, Wolverine, the Final Destination, Jonas Brothers, Hanna Montana, Year One, Crank, ... . Nope, didn’t see it and not gonna. I want the four hours of my life back for seeing My Life in Ruins and Bruno.] Also, this situation may give a boost to independent films which may have more opportunities for distribution. There should be an up tick in foreign films as well. And Hollywood may just may be inclined to put its best foot forward and green light the good stuff and can ixnay the other stuff. I could live with that.
