Recently I've watched three great documentaries on Netflix instant. Here's the quick and dirty:
- Brooklyn Boheme--A intimate film by Nelson George chronicling a renaissance of black artists living in Fort Greene, Brooklyn in the late eighties and the nineties. Features prominent present and former Brooklynites including Spike Lee, Chris Rock, Vernon Reid, Toure, Saul Williams, Branford Marsalis, and others.
- The Queen of Versailles--Jackie and David Siegel were on track to building the biggest house in America, meticulously modeled on Versailles in France. And then Lehman Brothers went bankrupt and David's billion dollar time share business took a severe hit. I thought I'd be unable to relate, but neither Jackie nor David are unlikeable. Jackie is a fun loving wife and mother and David is basically a workaholic. It was interesting to hear how much they too, much like the 99%, blame big banks for their financial woes. Definitely a peek into how the 1% have coped with the Great Recession.
- Happy--A apt title for a gentle doc that explores what makes human beings from all over the world happy. A scientific and anecdotal exploration that will leave a smile on your face.

This is awesome! I'll have to check these out. I love watching documentaries on Netflix. It's hard deciding what to watch, because who knows if it will be worth my time. I highly recommend Craigslist Joe as well. Thanks! Phil
